Tucher-Fellowship
»Performing Alterity«
Field Notes from Six Months between Archives and Collections
Why did people in early modern Northwestern Europe wear costumes that imitated ethnic and social others? How were these impersonations commemorated in works of art? How were the aims of those artistic representations similar to or different from their performative counterparts? These are the questions that brought me to Nuremberg as the 2025 Tucher fellow. As I settle back into life in the US after the conclusion of the fellowship, I wish to reflect on my stimulating and productive experience.
